Huaxin Securities released a research report indicating that the rapid growth of U.S. AIDC demand has driven up the need for self-built power sources. Gas turbines, with advantages such as shorter construction cycles and stable power supply, have become the short-term preferred power solution for data centers. Overseas tech giants like Google and Amazon have already incorporated gas turbines as core backup power or even one of the primary power sources in newly built data centers. Chinese gas turbine manufacturers are expected to encounter a strategic window period in overseas markets. Dongfang Electric, leveraging its independently developed F-class heavy-duty gas turbine G50, has successfully achieved an overseas breakthrough, securing a core equipment order for the 50 MW combined-cycle power generation project in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. This marks the first time that domestically produced heavy-duty gas turbines have been exported as complete units.
Citi stated that Dongfang Electric is in talks with U.S. data center clients regarding potential sales of gas turbine generator sets. Currently, there is no specific timeline or other details on new orders. The firm believes that demand for gas turbine generator sets from U.S. data centers remains strong, and prices are also attractive. Therefore, the company is enhancing product reliability while addressing potential compliance risks and other challenges.
