On February 4, CLSA released its 2026 Feng Shui Guide for the Hang Seng Index. The report conveyed a positive outlook, emphasizing that '2026 will bid farewell to the hesitations of the Year of the Snake as the Year of the Horse charges forward with confidence and momentum.'

Although it has been a humorous forecast rather than a serious research report since its inception in 1992, according to statistics from netizens, its accuracy is relatively low.
However, by offering an unconventional perspective on fortune-telling for the Hong Kong market, the Feng Shui Guide has repeatedly gone viral over the past 34 years, becoming one of the must-read reports for many investors.
01, Welcoming the Year of the Horse through Five Elements Analysis
The report pointed out that the trend in 2025 was 'serpentine,' far exceeding expectations. Meanwhile, it set the tone for 2026: it would be a year characterized by speed, direction, and tactics changing rapidly like an 'equestrian Olympic competition,' with the keyword being 'galloping like a horse.'
If one can boldly seize opportunities, ride the wave, and adapt flexibly in the Year of the Horse, they will undoubtedly harness the overwhelming tide of fortune and gallop ahead, riding the waves.
Based on Five Elements analysis, the report projected the performance of corresponding industries across different periods in 2026.
Wood (Main Uptrend): The strongest throughout the year, favorable in spring and summer, with a slight decline at year-end but remaining robust overall. Positive outlook for agriculture, furniture, plants, and pharmaceuticals.
Fire (upward volatility): Outstanding performance throughout the year, but beware of a potential pullback at the end of the year (November, December). Positive outlook for energy production and telecommunications, jewelry, eyewear, and lighting industries.
Earth (structural opportunities): Overall subdued, with phased rallies expected in autumn. The real estate sector is unlikely to perform strongly, while gravel, cement, and other building materials, hospitality, and various jewelry sectors present opportunities.
Metal (steady progress): Favorable throughout the year except for summer. Strong performance anticipated in machinery manufacturing and construction steel sectors; innovation trends in financial products warrant close attention. Military industry and legal sectors show growth potential.
Water (cautious approach recommended): Weakest throughout the year. Shipping and tourism sectors should be approached with caution. Trade-related fields, particularly beverages, toys, and other small commodities, as well as fisheries and aquaculture, may barely maintain stability.

As for the earth-related real estate industry, this year’s astrological chart lacks auspicious stars, suggesting it may lack robust upward momentum. However, regional performances will vary, with some areas faring better than others.
The eastern and southeastern directions are favorable with abundant blessings, while the western and central areas offer relatively stable opportunities. By comparison, the northern and southern regions, as key points on the meridian, may face greater challenges.

Zodiac Fortunes: Guidance for Auspicious and Inauspicious Trends
This report also categorizes guidance by the twelve zodiac signs, advising individuals of different signs on which directions to seek wealth, what colors enhance fortune, what objects attract good luck, and what matters require special attention this year.
For example, friends born under the sign of the Horse: their wealth position lies in the east. Placing aquatic plants in the eastern area can help enhance financial prosperity. Overall, this year presents a strong运势, making it an excellent time for proactive endeavors.
For friends born under the sign of the Pig: their wealth position is in the southwest. Placing a fish tank there can boost运势. This year promises favorable运势, bringing joy and contentment.
Friends born in the Year of the Ox: Your financial position is in the due north, where white stones can be placed. This year, you may easily be disturbed by various trivial matters, unexpected incidents, or undermined by ill-intentioned individuals, hence "do not become a lost ox."

03. Hang Seng Index: A Bright Future Ahead
As for the highly anticipated performance of the Hang Seng Index, according to the Feng Shui Index chart provided by CLSA, the prediction is as follows:
Early in the year (Spring): An inauspicious start with potential disruptions from 'negative forces,' and the index may experience a downturn.
From April to June, the Hang Seng Index will witness a notable upward trend.
Early Summer (May-June): Regaining strength and beginning to "move forward steadily." It is recommended to seize opportunities between spring and summer.
July: A sudden and sharp decline.
Second half of the year: Entering a "dressage" mode with an oscillating upward trend; significant progress expected in November.
End of the year (December to January next year): The market will see a final sprint before concluding.

04. The Feng Shui Guide Is Intended to "Bring a Smile to Your Face"
CLSA CITIC reminds readers in the preface that this year’s Feng Shui Guide for the Year of the Fire Horse is intended as a light-hearted and entertaining piece meant to amuse, and should not be regarded as a formal research report.
In last year's Feng Shui Index Report, CLSA CITIC specifically noted that its 'Feng Shui Guide' first appeared in 1992 as a Lunar New Year greeting card with the aim of presenting an informal outlook on the Hong Kong market. It has since become a widely popular tradition within the company. However, it should be made clear that this guide is not a serious research report.
Note: This is merely an entertaining interpretation by CLSA CITIC and should not be considered investment advice. The market involves risks, and investments should be approached with caution.
