Aladdin Borujerdi, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, revealed that Iran plans to establish a completely new strait management system. The proposed model will be based on Turkey's management of the Bosporus Strait and Egypt's management of the Suez Canal, requiring vessels passing through the strait to obtain permission from Iran and pay corresponding transit and service fees.
Aladdin Borujerdi, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, stated on March 30 that, given the current international security situation and external threats, Iran is seriously considering withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and plans to implement a stricter access and charging system for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Borujerdi stated that as Iran’s legitimate security interests have not been effectively safeguarded while fulfilling its obligations under the NPT, the Iranian parliament is actively promoting relevant proposals to study the possibility of formally withdrawing from the treaty. He emphasized that under the circumstances of facing external military threats and unfair treatment, Iran will take all necessary measures to ensure national security.

Borujerdi also stated that Iran currently has full control over the strategic waterway of the Strait of Hormuz. He revealed that Iran plans to establish a completely new strait management system, modeled after Turkey’s management of the Bosporus Strait and Egypt’s management of the Suez Canal, requiring vessels passing through the strait to obtain permission from Iran and pay corresponding transit and service fees.
Brugedi stated that Iran has incurred substantial costs over the past few decades to ensure the security of this strait, and will recover the related expenditures through institutionalized measures while strengthening supervision over this waterway. He noted that as the relevant proposal advances in parliament, vessels without authorization from the Iranian government will no longer enjoy free passage rights in this critical water area.
